When someone is involved in a road traffic collision, its not unusual to sustain multiple serious injuries, including fractures, soft tissue injury, and lacerations. Statistics published by Brake, the Road Safety Charity, indicate that every 16 minutes someone is killed or seriously injured on UK roads (based on a 10 year average from 2012 to 2021).
If you have been seriously injured in a road traffic collision, you may suffer financial losses as a result of not being able to work whilst you recover, you may have sustained damage to your personal property and clothing, need ongoing rehabilitation to assist your recovery and you may find you are unable to carry out all tasks that you could pre-injury, such as gardening and cleaning.
If your injuries were caused by someone else, including the driver of a car in which you were travelling as a passenger, it may be possible to bring a personal injury claim for injuries you have sustained.
Major Trauma Group is a not-for-profit community interest company, who can connect you to specialist injury solicitors across the UK who can assist you in bringing a claim.
Ben’s story
In 2019, Ben was riding his motorbike home from work on a bright summer’s evening. As he navigated a roundabout, he was involved in a head on collision with a car which was travelling the wrong way around the roundabout. He received multiple fractures to both legs, hips and gastrointestinal injuries, requiring surgery followed by intensive rehabilitation which included physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and neuropsychiatric sessions.
At the time of the incident, Ben was a self-employed osteopath and was unable to work due to the severity of his injuries.
He instructed a specialist major trauma solicitor who worked on his behalf to obtain funding from the insurers of the car driver for the rehabilitation that he needed, as well as interim payments to cover his loss of earnings.
A case manager who appointed who worked with Ben and his solicitor to assess his immediate needs, which included help with his cleaning and gardening, and co-ordinated his rehabilitation appointments.
Settlement
Legal proceedings were issued in Ben’s case, but his claim was settled without the need to attend Court. The compensation he received will help to fund his ongoing rehabilitation and care needs, as well as reimbursing him for his loss of earnings and the cost of assistance with his cleaning and gardening. It also included a sum for his pain and suffering.
