About Dorset Orthopaedic

STRIVE FOR BETTER. It’s not just our slogan; it’s our way of seeing the world. It’s the driving force behind our history, philosophy and innovation and is why we have achieved a worldwide reputation for excellence.

As an independent provider of prosthetic, orthotic, silicone and rehabilitation services, we pride ourselves in continually seeking to understand a clients’ unique requirements and deliver individual personalised attention. It’s this bespoke service and attention to detail that has gained us our reputation for quality and personalised service for almost 30 years.

In 2015 Dorset Orthopaedic introduced the first civilian Residential Rehabilitation programme in the UK. Taking a holistic approach to rehabilitation, our experienced clinicians and physiotherapy team work together to provide a multi-disciplinary team of experts ensuring not only that patients get the most suitable components, but the tools and knowledge to ensure they achieve maximum mobility and independence.

Our adaptive physiotherapy sessions can be incorporated as part of a treatment package with a new prosthesis or as a stand-alone service. We work together with our patients to discuss expectations, set goals and develop a clear strategy to ensure these are met.

For those who seek to enhance their recovery, we offer an accelerated rehabilitation programme – or Residential Rehabilitation. Often up to 5 days at a time, on a one-to-one basis, the programme significantly boosts both mobility and confidence. Historically people have been given a prosthesis and will receive physio but for only one or two hours a week. Individual physiotherapy is the gold standard – the more rehab you can get at an early stage, with the biggest intensity, as provided by our Residential Rehab programme, can certainly offer the biggest benefits and the most impact on changing people’s lives.

Mark had partial drop foot on his non amputated side, resulting in him tripping or catching his toes especially when he was exerting himself or tired. Mark was prescribed a custom made Silicone Ankle Foot Orthosis (SAFO), which instantly corrected the problem and allowed Mark to get on with his life.

All residential programmes are tailor-made to suit individual needs and are suitable for all levels of mobility. These programmes are offered at our London, Southern and Midlands clinics.

Success stories from Dorset Orthopaedic clients

“I am now full of hope and excitement for the future”, said Louise McOvens.
“I really want to dedicate my life to helping others and using my second chance to do something special. If I could give any advice to others that may find themselves in a similar position to me, it would be to never stop having adventures, no matter how small they may be; try new things and challenge yourself.”

The team at Dorset Orthopaedic were able to deliver and support Dave’s training and preparation for the 2017 and 2018 athletic seasons; supporting him through the London 2017 World Para-Athletics Championships.

Josephine set herself a fundraising target of £100,000 and exactly one year after her amputation, she managed to raise almost 90% of that and, bought her ‘dream leg’ and has enjoyed her newfound mobility ever since.

Rebecca Legon refuses to let being an amputee hold her back from doing anything she fancies and regularly challenges herself to try new types of sport and exercise to make sure she’s at her physical peak.

Taking a holistic approach to rehabilitation, our experienced clinicians and physiotherapy team work together to provide a multi-disciplinary team of experts ensuring not only that patients get the most suitable components, but the tools and knowledge to ensure they achieve maximum mobility and independence.
