STEPS Rehabilitation deliver intensive and ongoing rehabilitation for people recovering from brain injury, spinal cord injury, strokes and complex trauma injuries, enabling them to reach their full potential and to rebuild their lives.

This unique rehabilitation facility delivers high-quality care from a interdisciplinary team of medical and rehabilitation specialists.

The purpose-built, architecturally ground-breaking premises in Sheffield, Yorkshire is home to a 23 bedroom, residential and day rehabilitation facility. With a large therapy gym, skills kitchens, hydrotherapy pool, RehabHub, music room, café/dining space and a garden room set in our beautiful gardens. STEPS has been designed to feel non-clinical, comfortable and homely and is like no other care facility you will have visited.

Leading the way in rehab technology, it is home to an array of cutting edge robotic and virtual reality rehabilitation equipment and is an assessment centre for a range of exoskeletons.

STEPS Rehabilitation offer a combination of residential care, including  active respite stays for clients who would benefit from a short stay to have a burst of intensive rehab while also reviewing their rehabilitation programme.

The STEPS Rehabilitation mission is to achieve the very highest levels of recovery for each client by providing first-class therapies that are delivered by a specialised and motivated team of professionals and carers.

STEPS has been designed to feel non-clinical, comfortable and homely and is like no other care facility you will have visited.

  • Amputee Rehabilitation

    In partnership with STEPS Prosthetics, STEPS Rehabilitation is the only private clinic in the UK to offer a residential amputee rehabilitation service all under one roof.

    Clients benefit from the swift provision of their prosthetic or orthotic device whilst receiving daily therapy sessions to maximise their mobility, independence and general wellbeing.

  • Brain Injury Rehabilitation

    STEPS Rehabilitation provides residential rehabilitation programmes to clients once they are medically stable and able to leave hospital following a brain injury.

    The experienced interdisciplinary team provide a full range of therapies such as physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, neurologic music therapy, neuro psychology and aquatic therapy.

  • Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation

    STEPS Rehabilitation provides residential rehabilitation programmes to clients once they are medically stable and able to be transferred from a spinal injuries unit.

    STEPS has an interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation and has a team of specialists including Mr Pradeep Thumibkat, a consultant surgeon in spinal cord injury.

  • Orthopaedic Injuries

    Following an accident resulting in serious orthopaedic injuries a period of residential rehabilitation is usually recommended in a non-hospital facility.

    STEPS Rehabilitation have an experienced interdisciplinary team who provide a full range of therapies for rehabilitation following serious orthopaedic injuries including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, aquatic therapy and psychology services.

  • Luka’s Story – Below knee amputation following an injury at work

    He came to STEPS Rehabilitation for a three-week period in early December 2019, following his discharge from hospital and moved straight into the transitional living unit, which offers clients the opportunity to develop their independence in a self-contained living area that includes a fully accessible kitchen.

    Following the initial intensive rehabilitation at STEPS, Luka has moved into his own home with his partner and daughter and is able to wear his prosthesis most days.

    Prior to his accident, Luka played semi-professional football and is now looking at returning to the game.

  • John’s Story – Bicycle accident resulting in Spinal Cord Injury

    John suffered a spinal cord injury when he was knocked from his bicycle in July 2019.

    In September 2019, John moved to STEPS Rehabilitation as a residential client, on arrival, he was un able to sit up, wash himself or get dressed unaided.

    The improvements to John’s condition have required perseverance and dedication, “The team at STEPS set me small achievable goals which helps hugely with the way I psychologically approach my rehabilitation. Being able to smash those goals and have new ones set makes the rehab process very much a team effort”

  • Mike’s Story – Upper Limb Amputation and Brain Injury

    Mike survived a life changing upper limb amputation and brain injury when he was knocked from his motorbike in August 2019.

    Mike describes his time at STEPS as his ‘circuit breaker’ and saw massive improvements after just 3 weeks. Through the combination of therapies available at STEPS, his body has returned to a more natural position and his pain has reduced.

    His intensive rehabilitation timetable included regular aquatic therapy sessions, physiotherapy, acupuncture and massage. The improvements and progress he has made are testament to Mike’s determination and perseverance. He continues to visit STEPS as a day client, working on pain management, fitness, and sleep.

  • Kevin’s Story – Car accident leading to severe brain injury

    Kevin was 34 years old when, in February 2018, a lorry crashed into his car on the A38 causing him to sustain a life-threatening brain injury. It was only the previous week that he and his girlfriend, Vicki, learnt they were expecting their first baby.

    Since coming to STEPS, Kevin has become more alert and engaged within his sessions, joining in with task / functional specific therapy. He is continuing to make positive progress and is starting to develop his use of voice again. He can use it when in pain or uncomfortable but not to generate speech.
